The Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact around the world, although some countries were more affected than others. Spain, Italy and the USA stand out among them. In these countries, the numbers of infections and deaths forced serious limitations on people’s mobility. As a consequence, companies have had to reduce their activities significantly; some even had to stop them altogether. Many of these companies found themselves in the middle of crisis management processes, but were they prepared for it? How have they adapted to this new reality?
Crisis management during the pandemic
In order to answer these questions, the Women in Resilience group at the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) organized the webinar Covid-19 Pandemic Crisis Management in Action. This interactive meeting analyzed the situation of companies in Italy, Spain and the USA. For this, it featured the participation of three experts in the areas of business continuity and crisis management, one per country. One of them was UxÃa Fernández, Director of the Business Continuity area in Ozona, who provided information about Spain.
These experts not only explained how companies and governments were managing the crisis in their respective countries. They also drew conclusions about how the pandemic is changing the reality of many businesses and their workers. At the end, they all agreed that having continuity plans that help cope with situations like this has become a priority in many sectors. In addition, the percentage of workers who can perform their functions remotely is higher than many companies believed. Still, no two crises are the same. Therefore, the most effective plan will be the one that can be adapted to respond to each situation.
The webinar was free and took place on April 23 at 3:30 p.m. (BST). Below you can see the video of the event, in English.
